Zambales fishermen to get commercial boats from BFAR

These commercial and catcher boats will be distributed to fishermen in Masinloc town, Zambales province by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to help them improve their catch. (Contributed)

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will distribute small-scale commercial boats to fishermen in Masinloc town to help them improve their catch.

Wilfredo Cruz, director of BFAR in Central Luzon, said 10 38-footer fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) with 4DR5 engine will be given to the fishermen who have been venturing out to the West Philippine Sea.

Cruz said the boats could travel as far as 15 kilometers from the shoreline.

The fishermen will also receive accompanying 16-footer FRP catcher boats for more efficient fishing trips.

Cruz said six to eight fishermen will benefit from each of the commercial boats.

BFAR is also planning to distribute similar boats to fishermen in Aurora province.
