MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s seven-day average for new COVID-19 cases continued to drop even as the reproduction number rose slightly, Octa Research Team fellow Dr. Guido David said Monday.

According to David, Metro Manila’s current seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases declined further to 945 from 996 on October 22.

“In other words, there is no indication yet of an upward trend. We must continue to follow health protocols to avoid a possible spike in cases,” David stressed

“Are cases rising in the NCR? The short answer is no, at least not yet,” David said in a Twitter post.

“While new cases over the past few days were higher than 1,000 (from Oct.10 to Oct. 21 there were less than 1,000 cases per day), the trends are still in line with weekly patterns,” he added.

Reproduction number

The COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila, meantime, rose to 0.48 from 0.45 last October 22.

Reproduction number is an indication of the infectiousness of disease.

A reproduction number of less than one means that one existing infection would lead to less than one transmission.
