MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Antonio Kho Jr. is urging aspirants on Tuesday not to wait until the last day of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC).
“Alam naman natin lahat ‘yan ‘yung practice, or ‘yung tradition, or ‘yung culture natin na, we, Filipino, usually dumarating at the last time. In this case, probably on Friday,” Kho said during the fifth day of the COC filing.
(We all know the Filipinos’ practice or tradition or culture that we usually arrive at the last time. In this case, probably on Friday.)
“I would like to convince those who are planning to file their COC. You have tomorrow, Wednesday. You have Thursday. I-avoid po natin magkumpol-kumpol sa (Let’s avoid crowding on) Friday,” he added.
The commissioner explained that lodging COCs earlier than the last day would allow aspirants to correct their mistakes, should there be any.
“What if dumating kayo rito, kulang ang mga requirements ninyo o mali ‘yung COC ninyo o mali ‘yung mga supporting documents? You have time to go back and fix it,” Kho noted.
(What if you come here, you lack requirements, or have the wrong COC form or supporting documents? You have time to go back and fix it.)
“If ‘pag Friday kayo pumunta, ‘di na kayo makakabalik kasi mahaba masyado ang pila. So, I ask you to file it early. If you can file it tomorrow, please do,” he went on.
(If you come here on Friday, you cannot go back because the line would be too long.)
The COC filing period is from October 1 to October 8.
As of October 4, 20 aspirants filed their COC for president, seven for vice president, 39 for senators, and 48 for party-list.
