LAGUNA, Philippines — More than a week before the start of the filing of Certificate of Candidacies for the 2022 national and local elections, incumbent Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez has announced that he would be seeking reelection for a third term.

“I would like to formally announce that I would run again for governor of Laguna for my third term. I’m game on to my last term,” the governor from Calamba City said in Filipino in a Facebook post on Tuesday night.

Hernandez, 49, first entered the provincial capitol after he won as vice governor in 2013. He became Laguna governor after then governor ER Ejercito was removed from office for campaign overspending in 2013 polls.

Hernandez and Ejercito locked horns again in the 2016 elections that ended with a victory for Hernandez.

Hernandez again defeated Ejercito for a second time in the 2019 midterm elections with a lead of almost half a million votes.

Laguna is the country’s fourth vote-richest province with 1,903,107 registered voters, as of 2019.
