MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila further decreased from 1.11 to 1.03, independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research said on Wednesday, a day after it noted a possible “end game” of the Delta variant in the Philippines.
“The reproduction number in the NCR (National Capital Region) decreased to 1.03,” OCTA Research fellow Guido David said in a tweet.
Reproduction number is the average number of individuals being infected by one positive case of COVID-19.
David said that the decrease in new cases in Metro Manila continues. He added that the seven-day average of new cases in the region from September 15 to 21 was at 4,784, with a one week growth rate of -18 percent.
On Tuesday, David said the country is possibly at the “end game” of the Delta variant as the reproduction number in the capital region dropped to 1.11.
“We’re actually very optimistic — well, at least me. My perspective is that based on what we’re seeing in many other countries which have seen the rise and fall of the Delta variant and this includes countries like India and Indonesia, of course now, I think we’re at the what we’d might call the end game of the Delta variant because it’s already starting to decrease,” he said in a media forum.
Metro Manila now has 44,736 active COVID-19 cases. Nationwide, there are 171,142 active cases.
