DOH logs 103 more COVID deaths; total now at 34,337

Another 103 patients succumbed to COVID-19 complications, the DOH said on Monday, bringing the total recorded deaths to 34,337.

MANILA, Philippines — Another 103 patients succumbed to COVID-19 complications, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday, bringing the total recorded deaths to 34,337.

According to DOH, this death toll accounts for 1.63 percent of the total 2,103,331 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the virus hit the country’s shores in early 2020.

Meanwhile, global deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, currently stand at 4,567,431. Meaning, the local deaths in the country account for 0.75 percent of the total deaths worldwide.

So far, the DOH has already recorded 892 deaths in total for the month of September alone.

The DOH on Monday also logged the highest-recorded number of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started, at 22,415 cases. This came just a week before recording its last record-high number.

The current surge is rooted in the spread of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant.
