MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo’s promise to make a decision on a presidential bid in 2022 will be made soon, her spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
Office of the Vice President (OVP) spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said that among others, Robredo is considering the support she will receive from various civil society groups and local volunteer organizations.
“Malapit na tayo sa panahong tinukoy niya para sa pagpapahayag ng kanyang desisyon,” he added.
(We are nearing that time she has specified for her to make a decision.)
Several groups across the country recently launched campaigns urging Robredo to run for president.
“Nagpapasalamat si VP Leni sa lahat ng mga nagpahayag ng kanilang tiwala at suporta. Kasama sa kanyang proseso ng pagdedesisyon ang pakikinig sa mga panawagang ito,” Gutierrez said in a statement.
(VP Leni is thanking those who have expressed their support and trust. These will be part of her decision-making process for the 2022 elections. )
Last Friday, representatives of the LGBTQIA+ community, dubbed as LGBTQIA+ for Leni, have vouched for the Vice President’s capability, believing that she will usher in reforms for their sector.
Last Wednesday, Team Leni Robredo, the volunteer organization that oversees these groups, said that multi-sectoral and cause-oriented groups in Bulacan formed the Bulacan for Leni.
A similar movement was launched in Quezon province, dubbed Quezon for Leni, while a group of teachers have also made same steps — all to ask Robredo to join the presidential race next year.
There have been rumors that Robredo may instead join the gubernatorial race in Camarines Sur.
The OVP, however, previously said that the vice president is still open to joining the presidential race.
