Habagat-induced bad weather leave 3 dead, 5 hurt — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains and strong winds induced by the southwest monsoon or habagat left at least three people dead, and at least five others hurt, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

In its report, the NDRRMC said a 39-year-old woman from Baguio was killed when a tree fell on the vehicle she was in. Two other people inside the vehicle were also injured. The NDRRMC gave their ages as 29 and 63.

A 35-year-old farmer and a 15-year-old student were also killed in Barangay (village) Tartarabang in Pinili, Ilocos Norte after being struck by lightning. Two farmers and a 17-year-old were also injured in the lightning strike.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC added that a total of 87,493 individuals or 19,521 families across Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), the Western Visayas, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Metro Manila were affected by the effects of the habagat.

A total of 24,798 individuals were also evacuated, with 22,693 of them still staying in evacuation centers.
