Romina no longer affecting Kalayaan Islands; wind signals lifted

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Romina is no longer directly affecting Kalayaan Islands, prompting the lifting of all Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Romina was last located 165 kilometers west of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

It was packing a maximum wind speed of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph while moving northwestward at 10 kph.

Romina “is expected to continue moving away from Kalayaan Islands while heading towards the eastern coast of Vietnam,” said Pagasa.

Romina may develop into a tropical storm within the next few hours.

However, it may weaken into a tropical depression on Monday night or Tuesday early morning.

“It may further weaken into a remnant low as it approaches Vietnam,” Pag-asa added.

Likewise, the winds from the trough brought by Romina and the northeast monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas on Monday:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Aurora
  • Bataan
  • Batangas
  • Cavite
  • Quezon
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Lubang Islands
  • Calamian Islands
  • Cuyo Islands
  • Kalayaan Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Caluya Islands
