PH’s new COVID-19 cases dip to over 3,000 for 2nd straight day

MANILA, Philippines — The number of new COVID-19 cases dipped to over 3,000 for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, leading to a total of 44,408 active coronavirus cases, a figure lower than in previous days.

The latest bulletin from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that there were 3,806 additional coronavirus cases added to the tally. On Tuesday, there were 3,604 new COVID-19 infections.

The 44,408 active COVID-19 cases represent 3 percent of all the 1,485,457 confirmed cases in the country.

According to DOH, another 6,296 patients have recovered from the disease, raising the recovery count to 1,414,817 or 95.2 percent of all the cases.

Meanwhile, another 140 patients have died, raising the death toll to 26,232 or 1.77 percent of the tally.

The DOH said 11 percent of the 31,987 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Monday.

All testing laboratories were operational on Monday but five laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of tested samples and 1.9 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH also removed nine duplicates, including eight recoveries, from the total case count. It also noted that 105 cases that were initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
