Suspect in 2015 killing of Zamboanga Sibugay ex-mayor arrested
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines — Police arrested on Thursday night a suspect in the 2015 killing of Randy Adlawin Climaco, a former mayor of Tungawan town in Zamboanga Sibugay province.
Maj. Rommel Lamberte, Tungawan police chief, said Bakrin Ijirain Sakinal, 46, was arrested in his house in Sibuco town, Zamboanga del Norte on the strength of arrest warrants issued by Judge Antonio Isaw of Branch 24 of the Regional Trial Court for murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and eight counts of attempted murder.
According to Lamberte, the suspect is believed to be part of a gun-for-hire group operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula. He was identified as among those involved in the ambush of Climaco on Oct. 12, 2015.
Three of Climaco’s five companions were wounded in the attack, among them then-Vice Mayor Abdurauf Abison.
According to Lamberte, Sakinal is also known as Parrot Fish and tops the most wanted persons list in Tungawan.
The arrest was led by Lt. Jumar Nabua, commanding officer of the Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company, with support from Lamberte’s officers and some from the Zamboanga City Police Station 10 and the Sibuco Municipal Police Station.
