‘COVID-19 is real’: Leyte town mayor shows symptoms after coronavirus infection

TACLOBAN CITY—Mayor Lovel Ann Yu, of Alangalang town, Leyte province had tested positive for SARS Cov2, the highly contagious virus that causes the COVID-19 disease which still has no known cure.

Yu is currently on quarantine and is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms—fever, cough, loss of taste and smell.

The mayor is unsure how she got infected but urged people to always heed health protocols and not take COVID-19 lightly.

“COVID-19 is real,” Yu said.

Yu joins a growing list of local government officials infected by the virus that continues to spread in the Philippines.
