Parañaque sees arrival of AstraZeneca vaccines in 2021 ‘late second quarter’

MANILA, Philippines — Some 200,000 doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccines which Parañaque City has secured are expected to arrive in the “late second quarter” of 2021, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Friday.

“So hopefully, ang target natin dito mga late second quarter, darating po itong AstraZeneca na ito for Parañaque City po,” Olivarez said in an interview over Teleradyo.

(So hopefully, the target here is the late second quarter, these vaccines from AstraZeneca will arrive for Parañaque City.)

Olivarez previously disclosed that the city government already gave a 20 percent advance payment or P9.6 million for the AstraZeneca vaccines.

Other Metro Manila local government units have also made advance payments for the AstraZeneca vaccines they have secured, said Olivarez who is also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council.

Earlier, the Philippine government, the private sector, and local government units signed a tripartite agreement to secure 17 million doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca.

Some 300 companies and 39 LGUs from across the country have pitched in for the purchase of these vaccines.
