Total blackout hits northwestern Mindanao, says NGCP
ILIGAN CITY –– A “total blackout” hit Northwestern Mindanao Tuesday morning, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said in a public advisory.
The blackout, it said, occurred around 8:30 a.m. with the outage of the Agus 5-Aurora 138-kilovolt line, one of the two transmission lines bringing power to the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga City.
As of 10 a.m., power was restored in Ozamiz City, several residents told the Inquirer.
NGCP corporate communications officer Elizabeth Ladaga said technical teams were still assessing the cause of the outage.
On Monday, the other transmission line serving the region was rendered unserviceable after a power pylon in Tangcal, Lanao del Norte was toppled by saboteurs, who pilfered the facility.
Repairs on the tower in Tangcal, Lanao del Norte will start Wednesday after the affected landowners gave consent for NGCP engineers and crew to enter the area, said Ladaga.
