NBI to investigate murder of Los Baños mayor

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct case build-up and identify the perpetrators behind the Dec. 3 killing of Los Baños Mayor Caesar Perez.

In a memorandum dated Dec. 4 but was shared this Saturday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered NBI Director Eric Distor to conduct the investigation and if evidence warrants, file appropriate cases against the persons responsible for Perez’s death.

The NBI was also required to submit to the DOJ the periodic reports on the progress of their investigation within 30 days.

Perez, included in the government’s narcolist, was shot twice in the head inside the municipal hall at 8:45 p.m.

The mayor’s brother, Ruel Perez, was also shot three years ago in Barangay Maahas.

The Laguna provincial police probers are also investigating the case.
