‘He didn’t look like he’d jump’ off condo

A 28-year-old man plunged to his death apparently from the 28th floor of Globe Asiatique Tower 2 near the Boni-Metro Rail Transit station on EDSA, Mandaluyong City, past midnight on Saturday, police said.

Police were still investigating what caused the fatal fall of Cris Cadag, a call center agent and a resident of the building for the past two years.

Superintendent Roseller Sta. Maria, a member of the Mandaluyong City police who responded to the incident, noted in his report that “a window (serving as) the fire exit on the 28th floor was left wide open,” leading to initial assumptions that Cadag fell from that height.

According to a member of the building’s security team who asked not to be named for lack of authority to speak to reporters, Cadag was last seen  wearing black shorts and a blue shirt and “didn’t look like someone who will jump to his death. He was even fixing his hair.”

Sta. Maria added that footage from the building’s closed circuit television cameras showed Cadag taking the elevator from the 7th floor where he lived and going up to the 23rd. There was no immediate explanation as to how Cadag got to the 28th, if indeed he fell from that floor.

Other building residents heard a loud thud when Cadag hit the ramp in front of Tower 2. The body landed on a spot right below the fire exit described by Sta. Maria in his report.

Building security officials declined to release a report of the incident. Before Saturday’s incident, a series of robberies had taken place in the 30-story building, which remained unsolved despite complaints filed with the Mandaluyong City police, the Inquirer learned.
