Burglars in QC take P2M but throw out Louis Vuitton bag

A couple residing in a Quezon City subdivision lost more than P2 million in cash and valuables to burglars on Saturday night, police said. Marilyn Morita and her Japanese husband were asleep when the suspects sneaked in and took her Louis Vuitton bag containing cash in Japanese yen and Philippine pesos equivalent to about P2 million, a gold bracelet worth P140,000, three gold rings worth P180,000, a digital camera and three mobile phones. Police said the burglary was discovered only at around 8 a.m. when the couple woke up and noticed that the “LV” bag was missing. The bag, however, was later recovered in a nearby vacant lot, still containing her IDs and other important documents.—Nancy Carvajal

Manila calls for early enrolees

Manila education officials reported a low turnout in the early school registration program of the Department of Education launched on Saturday, saying a mere 33 percent of the prospective enrolees in the city showed up. Manila Division of City Schools superintendent Ponciano Menguito said only around 5,000 children enrolled in kindergarten out of the 15,000 who were expected. Saturday’s registration was also open to first-graders, out-of-school youths, and students with disabilities. Of course, Menguito said they can still catch up and encouraged parents and guardians to contact the DepEd-Manila’s communications office for guidance at 527-5180 and 527-2315.—Jaymee T. Gamil

Felicito B. Reyno; 73

Felicito B. Reyno of San Mateo, Rizal province, passed away on January 23 after a lingering illness. He was 73. He is survived by wife, Leonora, daughters Carolyn and Katherine; son Robert and daughter-in-law Eleonor; and granchildren Joseph Christopher, Charlotte Jean and Candice. Details on the interment set on Wednesday will be announced later.
