The late musician Francisco Santiago, born on Jan. 29, 1889, wrote the first art song-kundiman in 1917 and was the first Filipino director of the UP Conservatory of Music. He died of heart attack on Sept. 28, 1947, and was buried at the North Cemetery in Manila. He was posthumously given the “Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan” award by the City of Manila in 1968—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
