MANILA, Philippines — Temporary toilet facilities for informal settler families at Parola Compound, Tondo in Manila will soon be built to prevent open defecation which is polluting the Manila Bay, city government said Wednesday.

In a statement, the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for Administrative Service officer, Rolando Castro, signed a supplemental memorandum of agreement to provide “portable toilets” for the informal settlers.

“The City of Manila, a local government unit of the Republic of the Philippines and the capital city of the Philippines, has signified its support to the rehabilitation of Manila Bay especially the provision of dignified temporary toilet facilities for informal settler families,” read the agreement.

The project will use portable and container-based toilet technology developed by toilet firm Loowat, Limited, Manila PIO also noted.
