72 of 95 new COVID-19 patients in Eastern Visayas are from Samar

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 95 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Eastern Visayas, bringing the total number of infections to 4,684.

Of the 95 new patients in the region, 72 are from Samar; 21 from Leyte; and two from Northern Samar.

Ronald Ricafort, head of the Calbayog City Information Office, said of the 51 new cases in the city, four are health workers assigned at the Calbayog District Hospital, which was temporarily closed for disinfection.

Ricafort said the remaining 47 new cases in the city are close contacts of COVID-19 patients.

He said the 51 new COVID-19 cases in the city are part of the 245 patients, whose swab samples were submitted for laboratory confirmation at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC).

The Department of Health also reported that a 66-year-old man from Marabut, Samar died on Sept.25.

The number of deaths of the region due to COVID-19 is now 42.
