NBI lauded for filing murder charges vs cops
MANILA, Philippines — The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Friday welcomed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)’s filing of murder charges against police officers involved in the killing of former Army Cpl. Winston Ragos last April 21 in Quezon City.
“The speedy and thorough investigation by the NBI is commendable. IBP salutes the professionalism and dedication of the NBI lawyers and agents on the case,” IBP said in a statement signed by its president, Domingo Egon Cayosa.
Cayosa said the prompt filing of criminal cases against the erring policemen “reinforces the principles that no one is above the law and that law enforcers should not be law-breakers.”
The NBI on Thursday filed charges of murder, perjury and planting of evidence against Police Master Sgt. Daniel Florendo of the Fairview police station and four police trainees present during the shooting incident that took place near a checkpoint.
