Cops under investigation for coronavirus now 76

MANILA, Philippines — The number of patients under investigation (PUIs) for coronavirus disease in the ranks of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has gone up to 76, while cops considered persons under monitoring (PUMs) increased to 905, the PNP said yesterday.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a statement that the medical personnel of the police force is now checking the health condition of the persons under monitoring (PUMs) and PUIs.

“PNP doctors are also closely monitoring the condition of two active-duty PNP personnel who recently tested positive for COVID-19 infection,” Banac said.

Meanwhile, the PNP intensified its biosafety procedure in Camp Crame, Quezon City to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

A walk-through disinfectant misting tent and a body temperature scanner was established in entrances of buildings at the PNP Headquarters as precautionary measures against the respiratory disease.

The PNP also mandated its personnel to conduct proper disposal of materials such as discarded personal protective equipment, face masks, and gloves.

As of Thursday, two police officers in the nation’s police force had tested positive for the coronavirus disease, which was caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus-2 (SARS-COV-2).
