MANILA, Philippines — There will neither be “sacred cows” nor “special treatment” for anyone – foreigner or local – who is caught involved in illegal drugs in Makati City.

This was the warning of Makati City Mayor Abby Binay after a Chinese national identified as Liu Chao was arrested from his apartment Tuesday night for yielding P2.5 billion worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation. Liu is reportedly a high-value target.

“Let me remind everyone, both locals and foreigners, of Makati’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against all forms of illegal drugs and substances. There will be no special treatment, no sacred cows when drugs are involved,” Binay said in a statement.

“The full force of the law will be brought down on anyone who would dare to deter us from attaining a ‘Drug-Free Makati,’” she added.

Binay said that if it were not for the “vigilance” of police operatives, the shabu would have been “indiscriminately peddled on our streets and other infamous places for drug pushing in Metro Manila and even in the provinces.”

She then called on the Makati police to intensify their efforts to rid of drugs in the city.

“I also urge our beloved Makatizens to keep a tight watch on their neighborhoods and promptly report drug-related illegal activities to the authorities. Let us not allow our homes and communities to be destroyed by drug syndicates and their protectors,” Binay said.
