Pasig gov’t suspends 2 CENRO officials for failure to act on environmental violations
MANILA, Philippines – The Pasig City government has suspended two City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) officials for failure to act on environmental violations such as discharged untreated wastewater.
“Two high-ranking CENRO officials have been suspended [without pay] while we continue investigation,” Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto said in a tweet on Wednesday.
“Allegedly, inspectors are routinely made to turn a blind eye when they see environmental violations,” he added.

Last week, Sotto warned that he would go after errant officials of the city’s environment office, citing a meat processing plant was given permits to operate despite warnings given by the city’s environment office for lack of sewage treatment facilities.
The Pasig City government padlocked the meat processing plant after it was found that it has no sewage treatment plant and its wastewater is polluting the city’s drainage system and the Pasig River. /muf
