Faeldon nixes resignation calls
MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Corrections Director General Nicanor Faeldon rejected on Monday calls for his resignation amid fresh allegations against him over the early release of heinous crime convicts.
During the hearing of the Senate committee on justice, opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros asked Faeldon point blank when he would resign from his post.
“Sa mga ganitong kaliwa’t kanang kapalpalan, pagkukulang tungkol sa GCTA (good conduct time allowance), mga importante pero simpleng tanong na mahirap sagutin dito sa komite na dapat alam na alam nyo agad, kelan po kayo magre-resign sa inyong pwesto bilang BuCor head, USec?” Hontiveros said.
Responding to the question, Faeldon said: “I respect the question of the honorable chair, sir and I defer that question to the appointing authority.”
Hontiveros pressed Faeldon, this time, asking his own opinion whether he should vacate his post or not.

“Yes, Ma’am,” Faeldon answered.
“You believe that you’re doing a good job? So far, ang lumalabas sa committee hearing na ito would point in the opposite direction,” Hontiveros said.
Faeldon was thrust into the limelight again after he reportedly signed the release order of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez, who was convicted for the brutal killing of two University of the Philippines – Los Banos students in 1993.
But the BuCor chief repeatedly denied signing the release order.
What he signed, he said, was a memorandum order that recommended the release of persons deprived of liberty like Sanchez. /je
