CPP on Gina Lopez death: ‘A loss to Filipino people’
LUCENA CITY – The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) mourned the death of former Environment Secretary Gina Lopez calling her as “a true friend of the Filipino people.”
“Because of her advocacy and dedication to the cause of the environment and the people whose lives depend on it, Gina Lopez will always be considered a true friend of the Filipino people,” the CPP said in a statement issued Wednesday.
The CPP said Lopez’s untimely death was a “loss to the Filipino people.”
The communist group remembered Lopez as an advocate of the cause of protecting the environment during her short stint as Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources under the Duterte administration.
“She joined the people in opposing big mining operations which plunder mountains, poison rivers and destroy the land,” the CPP said.
The CPP also remembered Lopez as “a friend” of the revolutionary movement.
