MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said he sent police forces to provide security and assist in the rescue operations in Itbayat town following the devastating earthquakes that hit Batanes on Saturday.
“I have ordered for our policemen to provide security in all areas and mobilize to help during the retrieval operations,” Albayalde said in a statement sent to reporters.

Albayalde also expressed his sympathy to the families of victims affected by the earthquake.
“Today, we offer our sincere condolences for the families of those who lost their loved ones during the earthquake in Batanes. We send our prayers for healing of those who were injured,” PNP chief said. /jpv
