MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake rocked the northernmost tip of the country early Saturday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake struck Itbayat, Batanes at 4:16 am. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 12 kilometers.

Intensity 6 was felt in Itbayat while Intensity 3 was felt in Basco and Sabtang.
Damage and aftershocks are expected.
