MANILA, Philippines—In a meeting with local chief executives a day after his State of the Nation Address (Sona), President Rodrigo Duterte declared that 60 percent of mayors have mistresses.
“Seryoso si Presidente, ang hula niya 60 percent ng mga mayor may babae,” Interior Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III told dzMM in an interview Wednesday morning.
Duterte made a similar pronouncement in December last year when he said that 90 percent of priests are homosexuals without stating his basis.

Densing added that in Duterte’s meeting with around 95 percent of governors and mayors nationwide, the President reminded them not to be involved in the illegal drug trade as he vowed to go after and kill them if necessary.
The President also ordered the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to draft a memorandum circular ordering local officials, especially highly-urbanized cities, to clear the streets to help ease traffic congestion and recommend the suspension of those who will not obey his directive.
This was in line with his directive to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año during his Sona to reclaim public roads that are used for private purposes.
In a separate interview in Malacañang on Wednesday, Duterte’s spokesman Salvador Panelo said the meeting is part of Duterte’s move to “welcome” and “congratulate” the newly-elected local officials. /je
