LOOK: Lady senators go for simple, classy outfits at 18th Congress opening
MANILA, Philippines — There was no red carpet, gimmicks nor pomp even for lady senators, who went for unfussy, muted but chic garbs for Monday’s opening of the 18th Congress.
In an immaculately white Paul Cabral midi dress, Senator Grace Poe quietly made her way to the Senate session hall, accompanied by husband Neil, and mother, veteran actress, Susan Roces.
Dressed in a piña terno by Randy Ortiz, Senator Nancy Binay looked classy while Senator Cynthia Villar’s embroidered piña barong with hand callado came out low-key for the occasion.
Poe, Binay, and Villar secured a fresh mandate in the Senate from last May’s elections.
Meanwhile, neophyte Senator Imee Marcos wore an Inabel inspired business suit as returning Senator Pia Cayetano chose a modern Maria Clara top and pants.
For Senator Risa Hontiveros, it was a mix of modern style and tested tradition. She slipped on a contemporary piña barong with sleeveless patterned after the baro’t saya.
Her wardrobe was designed by Joel Acebuche, who used textile woven on Kalibo and embroidered in Lumban, according to a text message from the senator’s staff.
Of the seven female senators, only Senator Leila de Lima was unable to attend the opening of the session as she has been detained at Camp Came in Quezon City over drug charges. /kga
