Alejano shrugs off poll survey results

TARLAC, Philippines — Opposition senatorial bet Gary Alejano on Thursday said he and his fellow Otso Diretso candidates are unfazed by survey results as the campaign period for the May 13 midterm elections comes to an end.

In a campaign sortie here, Alejano said they refused to believe in survey results done months or weeks before the polls.

“We have our own internal survey. We don’t want to be influenced by the other surveys that condition the mind of the people,” Alejano told the Inquirer.

Among the Otso Diretso candidates, only reelectionist Sen. Bam Aquino was included in the winning circle based on Pulse Asia’s pre-election survey conducted from April 10 to 14.

Alejano said that Otso Diretso bets have been doing a “guerrilla campaign” by going directly to people.

“Surveys are just the picture of the sentiments of the people at that time…People tend to decide in the last week before the elections,” he said.

“Their problem really is how to stay there. There’s no other way but down. So their number is really decreasing,” he added. /ee
