Pagasa says LPA near Ilocos to bring clouds, rain

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted near Ilocos Norte early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In a bulletin, the weather bureau said the LPA was 160 kilometers north-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, as of 3 a.m.

The trough or extension of the LPA is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon.

Meanwhile the rest of the country, Pagasa said, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by thunderstorms.

The weather bureau warned against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the weather bureau was also monitoring another LPA outside the Philippine Area  Responsibility (PAR), which was located 1,265 km east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.

He said the LPA was slow-moving and was expected to enter the PAR on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

However, it is not expected to become a storm and could dissolve as it approaches eastern Mindanao, Rojas added. /cbb
