PNP chief: Militant labor group turning off investors

/ 01:19 PM April 29, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde on Monday said the militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) is scaring away foreign investors in the country by encouraging laborers to  stage protest actions.

Albayalde’s claim is in reaction to the matrix released over the weekend by the labor group of government officials, government agencies and large companies supposedly responsible for the worsening labor conditions in the country.

The group also slammed the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines for allegedly violating the human rights of its employees.

“How can they say that we are anti-worker? Baka sila ang anti-worker?” Albayalde said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

“Alam niyo kung bakit? Ito ang sigurado. Bakit po ba umaalis ang mga investors sa atin? Papasukin ng KMU, i-i-instigate ‘yung unyon, and then magrarally sila, ‘yung investor mawawalan ng gana, uuwi sa kanila,” he pointed out.

Albayalde said this leads to thousands of Filipinos losing their jobs, but the KMU instead blames the government for the lack of investors in the country.

“Let’s wake up. Ito po ‘yung nangyayari. Binabaliktad lahat nila. Propaganda ito eh. It’s the conditioning of the minds. Ito ang sinasabi natin. Sino ang anti-worker ngayon? Sino ang anti-Filipino ngayon? Sino ang anti-mahirap ngayon?” he added.

The PNP likewise criticized KMU for alleging that the PNP violates human rights of its personnel, and even dared the militant group to specify which violations it is  referring to.
