Guard found dead in hotel room
In what could be a case of a copycat crime, another security guard killed himself allegedly over love problems in a Manila hotel on Wednesday.
On Monday, a watchman believed to be involved in a love triangle shot himself inside a pension house, also in Manila.
Carlo Herrera, 29, of North Boulevard, Navotas City, who was on his first day on the job, appeared to have shot himself in the head inside the quarters for employees of Ambassador Hotel on Mabini Street in Malate, police said.
But investigators are puzzled why the victim’s gun was found on the table, and not in his hand.
“We found the .38-caliber gun on the table, not in the victim’s hand. The two employees who shared the room with him claimed they did not move anything,” said Layugan.
Police, however, are looking at a suicide angle when Herrera’s relatives told them that the security guard was depressed after he was jilted by his third girlfriend.

When the two employees got up to check, they said they found Herrera, still in his uniform, lying dead with a gunshot wound on his right temple.
They immediately called for help from the other employees.
The hotel workers could not explain what motivated Herrera to kill himself, saying they only met him that day.
Layugan clarified, however, that the police have not yet determined if it was a case of suicide.
He said four employees, apart from the victim, will be subjected to a paraffin examination.
