MANILA, Philippines — Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, the alleged mastermind in the murder of Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe, has also allegedly ordered the killing of the town’s ex-mayor.

Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, director of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), revealed this on Monday, citing the testimony of Emmanuel Judavar, a witness in Batocabe’s murder case.

According to Corpus, Baldo, who was then vice mayor of Daraga, wanted to be mayor at the soonest possible time.

Baldo allegedly offered P350,000 to a group of gunmen for the hit job, Corpus said in a press conference Monday.

“Gusto niyang magmayor kaagad, so pi-nlano niya [na ipapatay] si [Gerry] Jaucian. Eh namatay si Mayor Jaucian so [naging] mayor na siya (He wants to be mayor at the soonest possible time so he planned to kill Jaucian. Mayor Jaucian died so he became the town mayor),” Corpus said.

Jaucian died from lung cancer on May 4, 2018, before Baldo can allegedly execute the plan.

“Pi-nlano si Mayor Jaucian. Nagkataon lang namatay siya noon (He planned to kill Mayor Jaucian. It just so happened that he died before the plan was executed),” Corpus said.

Judavar earlier said he was part of the plot allegedly masterminded by Baldo to kill Batocabe, which he said was hatched sometime in August 2018. But he said he backed out before the actual assassination due to an argument he had with Baldo. /ee
