MANILA, Philippines – “Bullying has no place in our society,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said Sunday, after the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) dismissed its student involved in a bullying incident.

“I hope and pray that we all learned from this lesson. Let’s now move forward knowing well that there are moral values and laws we need to abide by or follow,” Andanar said in a text message.

In a statement on Sunday, ADMU President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin SJ said that after “thorough investigation” and meeting parties concerned, the administration of the university decided to dismiss the bully student.

“The decision of the administration is to impose the penalty of dismissal on the student caught bullying another student in the comfort room of the school,” Villarin said.

“This means that he is no longer allowed to come back to the Ateneo,” he added.

Andanar then urged Filipinos to “forgive and peacefully celebrate Christmas!” /kga
