Man dies after eluding Batangas checkpoint

SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines – A still unidentified man was killed in a shootout with the police in Agoncillo, Batangas, on Tuesday morning.

A report from the Calabarzon police headquarters said the shootout happened around 2:30 a.m. in Barangay Bilibinwang.


Police said the man on a motorcycle was flagged down for inspection at a road checkpoint. But instead of stopping, the suspect drove past the authorities, triggering a brief chase.

Police said the man started to shoot, forcing them to retaliate. He was killed instantly. Police investigation is ongoing to identify the slain rider. /cbb
