Man confesses to strangling wife to death, sits beside her body for over a day

A 24-year-old man was arrested for murder and dowry death after he confessed to strangling his 22-year-old wife to death in front of their two-year-old daughter in Delhi, India.
Kamil went to the police station at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, with the child in tow to confess the crime he committed on Friday, Oct. 19, as reported by Hindustan Times today, Oct. 22. The police, who at first believed he was drunk, went to their house to verify his claims.
They found the lifeless body of his wife of three years, Reshma, on a mattress on the floor. Kamil was taken into custody by the police. Meanwhile, their daughter was sent to Kamil’s parents after Reshma’s parents refused to accept the child.
“Kamil’s claims were found true and his wife was found on the mattress with strangulation marks around her neck,” a police officer said in the report. “Her face had turned blue and we suspected poisoning as well. The body was sent to Lok Nayak Hospital where doctors confirmed that she died of strangulation.”
Kamil told the authorities during interrogation that he suspected his wife of having an affair and they repeatedly had arguments about it. When Reshma left for her parents’ home with their daughter on Thursday and returned only on Friday, Kamil was unable to control his anger, the report said. An argument ensued, eventually leading to Kamil strangling Reshma to death.
Kamil then spent more than 24 hours sitting beside the lifeless body of Reshma with their daughter on his lap, the report stated. He gave the two-year-old milk before going to the police station to surrender. Kate Matriano/JB
