A hotel chef in Hong Kong was sentenced on Tuesday, Aug. 21, to 13 years and nine months jail time for raping his own daughter for over a decade.

The judge who gave the decision, Albert Wong Sung-Hau, said that the unidentified suspect treated his daughter like a “sex toy.” The crime went on for 12 years, starting in July 2005 when the girl was only 10 years old, reports South China Morning Post.

The first assault happened at the man’s home, while his wife was sleeping. This went on four more times, up to 2017 when the girl was already 22 years old, causing severe trauma on her. After the final assault, the man’s wife found out and reported it to the police.

In defense, lawyers said the man blamed lack of intimacy with his wife due to her poor health. “The sexual relations between him and his wife is no excuse,” Sung-Hau dismissed the man’s alibi.

Before he was sentenced, the accused already pleaded guilty to five counts of rape. Katrina Hallare/JB
