QC cops kill 1 of 3 who tried to rob councilor’s house
A robbery suspect was killed in a shootout with Quezon City police officers who caught him trying to break into the house of a barangay councilor on Wednesday morning.
A police report said that members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group placed the house of Barangay Bungad Councilor Salvador Mejia under surveillance after they received a tip that it would be targeted by robbers.
Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, three men on a motorcycle stopped in front of Mejia’s house on Aguilar Street at Barangay Bungad.
One of the men, later identified as Rolando Guanzon, 35, was trying to break the chain lock when the policemen showed themselves and asked him to surrender. Guanzon, however, opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate as the suspect’s two accomplices escaped on their motorcycle.
The CIDG recovered from the scene a .38-caliber revolver, five cartridges and a slug. —Jodee A. Agoncillo and Aliana Lois Diaz
