Albayalde to Bicol police: Prioritize probe on slay of broadcaster

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has ordered Bicol Region police director Chief Superintendent Arnel Escobal to prioritize the investigation on the murder of Albay broadcaster Joey Llana.

Albayalde also ordered Escobal to closely coordinate with the Presidential Task Force on Media Security in order to fast track the investigation.

“Let there be no stone unturned as we seek justice for the victim and his family,” Albayalde said in a statement on Saturday.

“Through relentless investigative work and follow up police actions, let us put these criminals and their patrons behind bars as soon as possible,” Albayalde added.

Likewise, he ordered the special investigation task group to regularly update Llana’s family on the status of the case.

Albayalde also sent his condelences to the broadcaster’ bereaved family as he condemned the killing of the “hardworking and hard hitting media man from Bicol.”

Llana succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after he was attacked while on his way to work.

Meanwhile, Malacañang and some senators also expressed outrage over the killing.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the killing was “yet another infringement on the rights to life and a free press,” while Senator Grace Poe said Llana’s death was “another deplorable act.”  /muf
