China debuted its home-grown bullet train, which can run up to 350 kilometers per hour.
The new train, dubbed G7 Fuxing bullet train, first ran the Beijing-Shanghai line on July 1. The G7 measures more than 400 meters long and comes with 16 carriages, the longest so far in the country. Previous bullet trains had only eight carriages, as reported by Chinese outlet Xinhua.
China Academy of Railway Sciences chief engineer Zhao Hongwei said the G7 is actually more efficient and has better performance despite its length.
The train’s interior was designed to be more spacious, and carriages get a longer, more reliable service life than its predecessors, according to People’s Daily China.
The increase in speed and capacity should make it easier for Chinese commuters to get from city to city. Citizens would also need to take care of their social credit standing in order to utilize this mode of public transportation. /ra
