Celebratory gunfire killed a four-year-old boy and more than 400 others were injured by powerful firecrackers in typically rowdy New Year celebrations in Metro Manila, officials said Tuesday.

A Philippine official says more than 200 people have been injured by illegally huge firecrackers and celebratory gunfire despite a government scare campaign against reckless holiday revelries.
