Germany’s Merkel injured in skiing accident—spokesman

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was injured in a fall while cross-country skiing in Switzerland over the winter holidays and has cancelled meetings in the next three weeks, her spokesman said Monday.

The penultimate bull run of Spain’s San Fermin festival left at least 23 people injured Saturday, when thrill-seekers fleeing the beasts were crushed at the narrow entrance to the bullring, officials said. An American citizen from Ohio was one of two runners gored.

Missing mountaineer rescued in Batangas

A mountaineer missing since Monday was rescued Thursday afternoon by a team of policemen and volunteers along a trail on Mount Malipunyo in Biak na Bundok in Lipa City’s Barangay Talisay. The man was injured on one leg by a trap intended for wild animals.
