CEBU CITY – Landslides struck two mountain villages here on Wednesday, forcing 42 families to leave their homes.
The Cebu City Disaster and Coordinating Council (CCDCC) and the Mines and GeoSciences Bureau organized the evacuation in Barangays Sinsin and Sudlon Uno.
Some families were hesitant to leave their livestock and other property, but were convinced to move out, said Alvin Castillana, administrative officer of Councilor Gerardo Carillo.
Castillana said they were given assurance that a male member could go back to their houses everyday and feed their livestock.
Landslides and earth movements started to occur in Sitio Nangka, Barangay Sinsin, on April 19. A 300-meter portion of a village road collapsed as a result.
The MGB declared a two-hectare radius area a danger zone because it was prone to landslides and earth movements.
Castillana said the city had given food supplies for five days to the affected families.
