MANILA, Philippines?A 38-year-old security guard was shot dead by a man and his son who had vowed to kill all barangay volunteers in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, over a still unknown reason.
Police Officer 2 Hermoneges Capili of the Quezon City Police District?s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, identified the fatality as Tito Nilo, 38, a resident of 185 Area A-3 Talanay, Barangay Batasan Hills.
He was shot by Enrique Bayani 49, and his son, Jaime, 23, residents of Area B in the same barangay.
According to the police, they had information that the pair used drugs.
They added that Bayani and his son shot the victim because they apparently mistook him for a barangay volunteer.
?The son shouted that they would kill all barangay volunteers here before he shot the victim at close range,? Capili said.
He added that Enrique, who was also armed with a bolo, was arrested afterward while his son managed to escape.
Three other men believed to be with Jaime at the time he shot the victim also eluded arrest. Two of them were identified as Mike and Eugene Malo.
Dead on the spot
Police said Nilo sustained gunshot wounds in the head and shoulder and died on the spot.
The victim?s wife told the police that her husband was standing in front of their house when he spotted Jaime who was carrying a shotgun.
She said her husband accosted Jaime who apparently got irked.
She added that Jaime left the area but came back after a few minutes, this time accompanied by his father and three other men.
The group then ganged up on the victim before Bayani and his son shot him.
