MANILA, Philippines ? Several businessmen and representatives from schools and churches in Quezon City have formed a multi-sectoral alliance to oppose a proposed street pay parking scheme being deliberated by the city council.
The alliance vowed to fight a proposed city measure seeking to impose parking fees on roads near ?places of special interest.?
Edwin Rodriguez, spokesman of the Tomas Morato Business Club, said they would conduct an intensive information drive to make residents more aware of the proposed street pay parking ordinance.
?Imposing parking fees would not put a stop to carjacking incidents as the ordinance?s proponents claim,? he said in an interview Saturday.
Various representatives from schools, business establishments and churches in the city held a consultative meeting to discuss their stand on the proposed measure.
The Quezon City council is deliberating a measure filed by city councilor Bong Suntay which seeks to impose a P20 to P150 parking fee for the first three hours along streets on ?places of special interest,? such as parks, churches, shopping malls and other places of congregation.
