MANILA, Philippines – An employee of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. died Thursday after falling from the 15th floor of the company building in the Makati central business district.

Makati police chief Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz identified the victim as Dalisay Gatab, 39, project control analyst of PLDT’s operations engineering project management group.

The victim allegedly fell from the 15th floor of the Ramon Cojuangco building on Ayala Avenue at about 12:15 p.m., Cruz said.

Suicide angle eyed

The police officer said initial information gathered by scene of the crime operatives of the Makati police tended to confirm a suicide angle.

One of Gatab’s coworkers told police she saw a woman jump from an open window in the ladies’ rest room on the 15th floor, the police chief said.

“The witness later discovered it was Gatab when she saw the body lying on the pavement,” he added.

Gatab could have suffered from internal injuries that caused her death, Cruz said.

In a statement issued by Ramon R. Isberto, Public Affairs head of PLDT, the country’s largest telecommunications company extended its condolences to Gatab’s family and friends.

“We are deeply saddened by her untimely death,” the statement said. It added that the company was providing immediate assistance to the victim’s family.
