Taguig to set new record to celebrate St. Anne feast

MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Sta. Ana in Taguig City will attempt to break on Saturday, July 26, the record for the largest boodle fight.

Mayor Freddie Tiñga will lead the feast as Taguig celebrates the feast of St. Anne, patroness of the city’s parish church.

“Our boodle fight,” said Tiñga, “is [proof] of the strong spirit of sharing and thanksgiving of Taguig.”

A thousand tables measuring 6.5 by 3 feet each will stretch across six barangays, allowing officials to take “the celebrations to the streets, so everyone gets to feel a warm fiesta atmosphere,” said Tourism and Trade Department head Zenon Licayan.

“The boodle fight is open to all,” he added.

Other activities include the “Banak Banak Festival” streetdance competition and games for young and old.

The “Pagoda” fluvial parade will highlight the annual festival. Fruits and food items will be tossed between boat riders and spectators to symbolize sharing and thanksgiving.

For the celebration, Gen. Luna Street from Barangay Tuktukan to the shrine of St. Anne and to M. L. Quezon St. and Barangay Hagonoy will be closed to traffic.

Vehicles going to Bagumbayan from Pateros and Pasig should use the Bagong Calzada route, turning left on F. Manalo St. leading to C-6 Road. Exit of C-6 Road will be through Bay Breeze Subdivision.

Vehicles going to Pasig and Pateros from Bagumbayan will be rerouted to Pio Felipe St. in Barangay Signal Village, through Water Fun up to C-5 Road.
