JAKARTA – Indonesia's chief detective resigned Thursday after being implicated in an alleged plot to falsely imprison anti-graft investigators.
Police spokesman Nanan Soekarna said National Chief Detective Susno Duadji had submitted his written resignation to police headquarters.
"Today he has tendered his resignation. The national police has received his letter," he told a press conference.
Duadji was allegedly at the center of a conspiracy involving senior police, prosecutors and a corrupt businessman to fabricate criminal charges against two commissioners of the Corruption Eradication Commission.
The commissioners were arrested last week but were released Tuesday after wiretap recordings of phone conversations exposing the apparent conspiracy were played in court.
Soekarna said he had not read the letter of resignation and could not comment on Duadji's reasons for quitting.
