MORONI—(UPDATE) A Yemeni Airbus that crashed Tuesday near the Comoros went down in stormy weather conditions, a Comoran airport official told Agence France-Presse.

"The flight was expected at 2230 GMT. Before landing the control tower lost communication with the crew," said Hadji Mmadi Ali, the director of Moroni international airport.

"The weather conditions were unfavorable with strong winds," he added.
